The Electric Vehicle industry is a complex system that combines for the first time technological efforts from the electricity industry, the auto industry and the telecommunications industry.??In the European Union, electric vehicle technology is seen as having a large potential to reduce GHG emissions and reduce oil consumption. To this regard, the EU GreenCars initiative foresees a package of 5 billion euros to support the development of new, sustainable forms of road transport. Additionally, many EU countries have taken individual initiatives to introduce this technology, and have launched pilot projects to show its technical feasibility, as well as introduced incentive schemes to foster the deployment of an EV fleet and infrastructure. In parallel to the central question.??This research focuses in the following issues: Can EVs reduce overall GHG emissions in Europe? What are the common features of successful European countries? EV Initiatives? What are the motivations of countries to pursue the deployment of electric vehicle technology? What are the different stakeholders? interests? Are there any cost advantages of PHEVs and BEVs vs. ICE vehicles? What regulation would need to be put in place to effectively sell electricity to EVs? Can vehicle to grid (V2G) be profitable? What are the policy recommendations for the Introduction of EVs?
