Renewable energy projects have moved from the fringes of the energy industry to center stage. At the Federal level, the stimulus bills have created a variety of subsidies and funding opportunities designed to help renewable energy projects compete with traditional fossil fuel generation. Regionally, wind power transmission and integration have become central to ISO New England resource planning, and while governmental policy makers continue to debate transmission requirements and whether renewable energy should be generated locally or imported from other regions. At the state level, each of the New England states has advanced new policy initiatives designed to attract more renewable energy resources, and the jobs that go with those resources. Yet in an environment of adequate capacity, these policies pit new renewals against the existing fleet of generators. And locally, communities have undertaken small-scale renewable projects themselves, and developers are pursuing MW-scale solar projects. Critics continue to voice opposition to incentives that promote renewables while questioning the costs, benefits and aesthetics of projects. A patchwork of siting and permitting rules and requirements continue to create obstacles in the region. With challenges and limitations associated with developing land-based renewable energy, offshore energy proposals and initiatives are multiplying. Please join us for this one day conference to examine the issues and trends affecting the industry in the Northeast and to consider strategies that facilitate the development of successful renewable energy projects.
